An integrated, enjoyable and child-centred course for the teaching of Irish which aims to develop the language, cognitive, emotional and creative skills of the child. Main emphasis is placed on the child and on his/her language requirements and particular interests. Prepared specifically for schools in the Gaeltacht and Gaelscoileanna but also suitable for use in English medium schools.
All the material is based on the guidelines and themes of the revised Primary Curriculum (1999). It is based on the communicative approach to language teaching and integrates the following four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Séideán Sí is a joint undertaking of the Department of Education & Science and Foras na Gaeilge. The material is prepared by teachers with extensive experience of teaching in Irish medium schools, who are currently seconded to the project. The project is administered by the Donegal Education Centre.
